JPII Did had a vision

JPII is most known through the world for trying to increase communication between all religions. This was done in order to try and have better understanding between faiths. This means he recognized that religion was causing a lot of war and suffering. Moreover I think he was smarter than that. He recognized that in the 20th century the world was loosing centralized religion. Many smaller churches popup and grew in influence. Moreover I think he recognized that non-religious people, agnostics and atheist were growing in number and stature. In the earlier part of this century religion was at the forefront of almost all debate and politics. He realized that increasingly science was being used. This meant fact was replacing religious doctrine and so I think he foresaw that the power of his position will dwindle. He realized the science was starting to look at the moment of creation (Big Bang) and he didn't like it. He saw that the church had to admit it had made mistakes (Galileo, child molestation) and so showed it was fallible. And worse yet on October 24, 1996 he had to admit that the Bible was wrong and science (evolution) was right.

I hope his vision (nightmare to him I guess) of a dwindling religious world comes true.

Why he would try and get all people of faith to come together and foster peace (regardless of religious differences) but wouldn't allow birth control use to stop the spread of AIDS and the death of millions to me shows his resolve. He realized when you give and inch people take a mile and so I think he didn't want to compromise any more of the churches power. Those who died and are dyeing because of it is the legacy of his resolve.
